Systemic constellation work
Some themes repeat even when you already understand a great deal about them.
Systemic constellation work – often also known as family constellations – makes a specific concern visible in space. In individual work, this may be done with figures or floor markers; in a group, other people can be involved as representatives. This can allow you to look at relationships, roles, decisions or recurring patterns from another perspective.
A sober approach matters to me: what emerges in a constellation isn’t an objective truth about other people or your family. It’s one way of looking more closely at your own experience and your view of a situation. You don’t need to believe in anything particular.
What constellation work can be useful for
- recurring patterns in relationships, family or work that you understand intellectually but that keep appearing
- farewells and losses that still occupy you after a long time
- difficult relationships or family roles, for example where guilt, loyalty conflicts or conflicting expectations are involved
- decisions where different needs or possibilities pull in different directions
- changes and transitions where much may be settled outwardly, but you still don’t have a clear sense of direction inwardly
Individual work (1:1)
You don’t need to prepare anything for the constellation. We talk through your concern together and go through your genogram. I guide the preparation and the constellation from beginning to end and decide, as the work unfolds, which people, relationships or other aspects are included. You can focus entirely on what emerges during the process.
We then place the people, relationships or other important aspects in the room using figures or floor markers. Together, we look at how the individual elements relate to one another and what you notice. Positions can be changed and other possibilities tried as the work develops. The aim isn’t to arrive at one particular “correct” picture, but to notice which new perspectives emerge for your concern.
A constellation usually lasts 90–120 minutes and takes place in a rented room, or online by arrangement.
Constellation days in a small group
On a constellation day, several people work on their own concerns one after another. Those who aren’t currently doing their own constellation may be involved as representatives if it fits the particular constellation, or they can observe.
At the beginning of each constellation, the concern is clarified briefly. People, relationships or other important aspects are then represented in the room. As the work develops, we look together at what stands out, which perspectives emerge and which changes can be tried.
I decide during the work who is involved as a representative. If you don’t feel comfortable with a role, you can say so at any time. It’s also possible to attend a constellation day without bringing your own concern.
Framework and fees
Your own constellation · €180 · including a detailed preliminary phone conversation and working through your genogram together
Follow-up phone conversation after the constellation · €30
Participation as a representative · €40
If you bring your own constellation, you may bring one person you trust free of charge. They attend the full constellation day and, if it fits a constellation, may be invited by me to take part as a representative. Audio, photo and video recordings are not permitted during a constellation day, and everyone signs a confidentiality declaration at the start. All prices are final prices. Cancellations are free of charge up to 48 hours before the start. After that I may charge a reasonable cancellation amount, provided the appointment could not be filled otherwise; savings on my side are credited, and you may show that no loss or a lower loss arose. Where the cancellation is due to sudden illness, a death close to you or a comparable unforeseeable event, no cancellation amount applies.
How I approach constellation work
For me, a constellation doesn’t reveal a hidden truth about a family, relationship or another person. What emerges during the work is a picture for that particular moment and one way of looking at a concern from another perspective.
I guide the process and decide as it unfolds which people or aspects are included. We don’t treat observations or impressions as facts about people who aren’t present.
What matters is what feels understandable and useful for your own concern. Afterwards, you decide for yourself what you want to take from the constellation.
Frequently asked questions
What people ask about constellation work
Is systemic constellation work esoteric?
My work doesn’t require any particular belief or the idea that a constellation reveals hidden truths. I understand it as a way of representing relationships, roles or decisions in space and looking at them from another perspective. What emerges is treated as a perception within the constellation – not as a fact about other people.
Do I need to know in advance who or what I want to include in the constellation?
No. You don’t need to prepare anything. We talk through your concern together and go through your genogram. I guide the preparation and the constellation from beginning to end and decide, as the process develops, which people, relationships or other aspects are included.
Do the people involved need to be present?
No. A constellation can take place even when the other people involved aren’t there. The focus is your perception of the situation and looking at it from different perspectives.
Can I attend a constellation day without doing my own constellation?
Yes. You can attend without bringing your own concern. How you’re involved during the day emerges from the individual constellations.
