Funeral speech
A funeral speech should sound like the person it’s about.
In a personal conversation, I listen, ask questions and gather memories, stories, distinctive traits and contradictions. From this, I write a speech grounded in the person’s actual life and in your wishes for the funeral.
As an independent funeral speaker, I write and deliver funeral speeches at farewell ceremonies in North Rhine-Westphalia – in English, German or bilingually.
Only what feels right will be said.
How the speech is created

Enquiry and date
Please feel free to contact me even at short notice. We clarify the date, location of the funeral and the main practical details. If a funeral home is involved, I coordinate the organisational points directly with them. Beforehand I send you the paperwork – the offer, the terms and a short declaration that lets us start work straight away. It takes a few minutes and means everything is properly arranged even when time is short.

The personal conversation
We take around 60–90 minutes for our conversation. Several family members are welcome to join. We talk about the person who has died: memories, stories, distinctive traits, relationships and what made them who they were. I ask questions and listen closely. You don’t need to prepare anything.

I write the speech
I write the funeral speech from our conversation. Only what feels right will be said. If you wish, you can read the speech before the funeral or we can go through it together.

The funeral
On the day of the funeral, I arrive in good time and coordinate with the funeral home and, where necessary, other people involved. I deliver the funeral speech. If you wish, I can also accompany the funeral party to the grave. Leading or moderating the entire funeral ceremony is not part of my offer.
After the funeral, you receive the speech manuscript from me.

Can I request a funeral speech at short notice?
Yes. It’s best to contact me as soon as the date of the funeral is set or foreseeable. Funeral appointments take priority in my calendar, and I can often prepare a speech within a few days.
Can the funeral speech be in English or bilingual?
Yes. I deliver funeral speeches in English and German and can also make the speech bilingual. We agree beforehand how the two languages will be used.
Can several family members join the preparation conversation?
Yes. The conversation can take place with one person or several family members. Different memories and perspectives can help create a fuller picture of the person who died. You don’t need to prepare anything.
Can we read the speech before the funeral?
Yes. If you wish, you can read it beforehand or we can go through it together. Changes and additions are of course possible. Only what feels right will be said.
